The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against other major currencies in European trading Friday. Gold rose.
The euro traded at $1.4281, down from $1.4331 late Thursday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York on Friday, the euro fetched $1.4235.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Thursday, included 106.61 Japanese yen, down from 107.04; 1.1086 Swiss francs, down from 1.1088; and 1.0644 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0673.
The British pound was quoted at $1.7673, down from $1.7690.
In New York midday trading, the dollar bought 107.03 yen and 1.1165 francs, while the pound was worth $1.7619.
Gold traded in London at $808.50 per troy ounce, up from $805.75 late Thursday.
